The Story Behind the VPO
A Year of Reflection
This year, 2026, I had time to step back and look at my 20+ years in IT and operational delivery, what worked, what didn’t, and what kept repeating. Out of that reflection, and with the help of my Copilot, the Virtual Program Office (VPO) took shape. Today, version 1.0 is ready and like most things, it's a living body of work that will evolve.
The Taxiway Problem
There were several times in my career where I stepped into a PM or Analyst role, and the expectation was the same: hit the ground running. But what you’re given is rarely a runway — it’s a taxiway. A short one. Projects are already in motion, risks are already forming, and decisions have already been made or missed. You’re expected to bring order, clarity, and momentum into an environment that’s moving at full speed, with almost no time to settle in or assess the landscape. (Top Gun: Maverick fans will appreciate the reference — “a very short taxiway.”)
The Human Side
Projects aren’t just technical; they’re human. That’s the unpredictable part. Tools and playbooks matter, but experience, emotional intelligence, and judgment matter more. That’s why I recommend an experienced PM for moderate and complex projects. Why? Because the taxiway is short, and the methods required to keep a project stable are substantial.
The VPO supports both sides: the structure teams need and the human dynamics that make projects succeed.
A Foundation That Grows With You
The VPO is a “little PMO,” a foundation, not a replacement. As organizations grow, it transitions naturally into a full PMO or governance body. The groundwork is already laid, the team already capable, and the systems already aligned.
Founder's Message
I built the VPO because I believe teams deserve clarity, structure, and calm, not chaos. Project leaders, project teams deserve a runway, not a taxiway. And because organizations deserve systems that grow with them instead of holding them back.
This work reflects the lessons, challenges, and breakthroughs of my career. It’s not just a product; it’s a philosophy rooted in experience, empathy, and the belief that good ideas deserve a fighting chance.
If this resonates with you, then you’re exactly the kind of leader I built it for.
With respect and admiration for all you do,
